Our History in Liberia
The University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS), Boston Children’s Hospital, MIT Humanitarian Response Lab, Mt. Sinai School of Medicine and other academic partners have been working in Liberia to provide support to medical education and nursing education. Over the past 7 years, they have partnered with the University of Liberia, the AM Dogliotti Medical School, the national referral hospital JFK Medical Center, and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
The academic consortium has been instrumental in supporting the design of curricula for both graduate and post-graduate medical education, and has helped the Liberia Post Graduate Medical Council to implement post-graduate (resident) medical education programs.
These collaborations set the stage for the creation of a stronger partnership - ACCEL. ACCEL’s mission is to leave a sustainable impact during its work to stop Ebola and transition this strong partnership into one that contributes significantly to “building back better” the Liberian healthcare system.
